Hello Bombshell!!
YAY!! It’s Spring. I LOVE Winter and yet am always ready to see the grass get green and the flowers bloom, aren’t you?
So I posed a question on our Bombshell page on Facebook about what it might feel like to stop running everything and doing everything and making sure the world was still spinning on its axis? Can you even begin to imagine what that might feel like dear Bombshell?
I am going to let you in on a little secret. I used to be that girl. You know the one. The girl that never said no to anything and did everything for everybody and washed clothes at 1 in the morning because well, that was the only time I had to do it. You know the one…the exhausted girl. The girl making sure everyone else was happy. The tired girl. The girl that would stay late so everyone else could go home. The girl with the dark circles carefully concealed with makeup because well, there was just one more thing that needed done before sleep. Even though I was completely dolled up and Bombshell on the outside, that girl was about as far away from being a REAL Bombshell as you could get. Are YOU that girl my darling? Are you making sure that God is doing His business all the while ignoring yourself and your needs? What about your family? Are you doing all the thinking, planning, and executing while everyone stands around waiting for orders from Mom? And the saddest experience of all…are you managing your love relationship, playing Mother to your lover while he gets to play little boy and barely show up? Yikes.
When we do everything for everybody it lessens our Bombshell Factor™ BIGTIME. I am talking in ways that you don’t always see right away….like raising a son that doesn’t know how to treat a woman with respect may not show up until his dating years when you learn he is abusive to his girlfriends. Or that when you decide to step down from a committee it folds because no one can do it “like you do”. And what about the situation we’ve all heard of when we coddle to our sweetheart and ignore our deepest longings to “keep the peace” only to find out he is having a love affair with the neighbor that is 40 pounds heavier and not near as fabulous as you are because she makes him feel like a real man? I cannot imagine that pain but know many women that have experienced that. Can you feel the energy drain from your body even as you read this? I can.
I am delighted to report that I haven’t been that girl in a really really long time. Although I love caring for my family, it seems like forever since I lost sleep overfunctioning for a family member or was anywhere near the laundry room late at night! I am peaceful, contented, excited, enthusiastic, successful, and HAPPY. And it feels WAYYYYY better than being tired my dear Bombshell. I can help you get there too!!
So where do you go from here? How do you get from being the “everything to everybody” girl to being a REAL Bombshell…a girl that exudes confidence, joy, and satisfaction in knowing her only job is really being the best she can be and nothing else? First of all BREATHE. Get some oxygen back into your body and see what that feels like. It feels great doesn’t it? Now let’s make a plan. I want you to list everything you do in a day. Everything. And when you are done doing that I want you to make a check mark on everything that you do for someone else that they could do for themselves and should be doing for themselves. …things like making your teenager’s haircut appointments, scheduling the vet appointment for your college daughter’s dog, etc. Do you see a pattern here? Now I want you to put a happy face by the things you do that bring you JOY and fill your tank….things like enjoying a good book….getting a manicure….a massage….lunch with girlfriends. How many happy faces do you see? Are you spending way more time doing for your family and paralyzing their growth than you are in self care? Let’s change that TODAY Bombshell. It is virtually impossible to care for your family at a deep level and not care for yourself without it taking a toll on your health and well being. I am serious here Bombshell. Make sure you make time EVERYDAY for self-care. You don’t have to go for a massage everyday. But how about making time to read or write or play? Yes. Everyday. THAT my darling, is an important step in being the best Bombshell you can be. Where are you going to start? I can’t wait to hear from you Bombshell!! XOXO Gigi Belmonico
